Re: Centerpieces
I am using oil lamps with oil that matches my wedding colors. There are all kinds of things you can do that are inexpensive. Try going to a dollar store or hitting the sales at craft stores. Shop around and ideas will come to you and you can save big!

Re: Centerpieces
One decision I made which helped keep the cost down was that all the tables do not have to be identical. I am arranging my flowers in various baskets. I have picked up baskets from tag sales, thrift shops & my house to use. I think it will be more interesting to have things varry a bit from table to table. Some tables may have one large arrangement while other might end up with three smaller ones.

Re: Centerpieces
I am making my own centerpieces, I bought terra cotta pots, and spray painted them gold. I bought cream colored roses stuck them all together on a foam ball (available at craft stores) and took pieces of twigs from my trees to make my own rose topiary trees. They came out beautiful and only cost me about $5.00 each to make.

Re: Centerpieces
You could do different sizes of pillar candles on a mirror. Then you could scatter anything from, crystals to stones to rose petals around the candles.
This is a nice idea for an evening wedding.

Re: Centerpieces
If you do the oil lamp thing, be sure to test them out before-hand. I'm using silver lanterns and I tried mine out and even with plain lamp oil (which is easily the least smelly of any lantern fuel) just one stunk up our kitchen pretty good. I'd hate to think what a reception hall with 40 burning would smell like. Luckily they were set up in such a way that the wick aparatus comes out easily and we can substitute a votive candle for an indentical, but much less smelly look.

Re: Centerpieces
Robin,
Thank you. I never thought of that. I know my mom uses oil lamps when the power goes out and I have never smelled anything so it never occured to me that there may be a stink issue. I knew for once this message board would come in handy! thanks again!

Re: Centerpieces
Just a suggestion but I think has homemade flower vases (its a do it yourself thing). I am helping my cousin make some for the pews. You buy the homemade flower paper of your choice and cut a silt and form it into a cone etc. And then you take a clear bag (sandwich bag) and put your fresh flowers in them and fill with water and tie a twisty tie around it and place in the homemade flower vase. If you use them for centerpieces just find some kind of little holder for them.

Re: Centerpieces
I don't know when your wedding is but my uncle used to own a flower shop and he helped my cousin do her wedding and she was on a budget (but then again I think we all are). Anyway they went and picked a whole bunch of wild flowers from ditches etc (all different colors) and greens and put them in a vase for each table. I have never seen anything more beautiful. Everyone was talking how wonderful they looked. And it was all FREE!!! Just an idea.
