Wedding Dress Color

I'm planning a winter wedding late in 2006 (so I have plenty of planning time!). I've gotten some great ideas from many of you about decorations and colors. My dilema is my wedding dress color. I look horrible in white (and many prefer me not to wear white since I have 2 children from a previous relationship). I really like the dark purple and ivory combo so an ivory wedding dress would be fine, but I was really leaning more towards white, silver, and ice blue. Any ideas would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Wedding Dress Color
I'm told there are no rules on color anymore. Do whatever you love most! I have seen some beautiful ivory gowns with a little bit of color added--some flowers, some dark red trim, etc. I'd probably feel odd actually wearing a strong color, but that's just my personality. (Ended iup with slightly off-white myself--worked better with my skin tone.)

Re: Wedding Dress Color
I have actually thought about an ice blue wedding dress and having my bridesmaids dress ina darker blue with silver accents. Do they have colored wedding dresses or do I find a formal gown the color I want? Also, if I have an evening wedding, should my bridesmaids be in long gowns? Thanks again for the info!

Re: Wedding Dress Color
I think you might find it difficult to find an actual wedding gown in ice blue (I haven't bumped into any in my travels), and it might be pricey, since it would be sort of a speciality item. But some companies DO make wedding dresses in other colors. I've seen pink, green, red, and black. I would find a good Bridal store and ask. Go to Borders, pull all the bridal magazines off the shelf, and flip through them to see if you see any colored wedding dresses.

If you don't find what you want, you could find the picture of a dress you want and hire a streamstress to make that dress, only using the material you want. Just make sure its a good seamstress!

Not sure about evening weddings and dress length. Unless its a black tie event, I'd say go with whatever Bridesmaid dresses you and your girls like most! Of course I'm not the best to ask: my wedding will be pretty casual.

Hope that helps. :-)

Re: Wedding Dress Color
Thanks Darlene! I actually found a pic of a dress I like. It's white with silver embroidery on it. I decided that if I want to wear white, then I should! :) Thanks for the advice!!!

Re: Wedding Dress Color
Hi, neat! I'm glad you found something you like!

I think your choice of a dress should be OK even with those who think white isn't appropriate. One you add any color other than white (silver, pink flowers, whatever), I think its considered the same as wearing ivory. It's not pure white! Or at least thats what you can tell critics. :-)

Plus, the official rules (and I've read this in several places) are that anyone can now wear any color they wish.

Re: Wedding Dress Color
I am starting to plan my wedding which will be in July of 2006. I am thinking of a black wedding dress and having my groom wearing a white suit. I am trying to find if it is wrong to wear a black wedding dress.

Re: Wedding Dress Color
But where on earth do you find an ice blue wedding dress? I have come across only one in my weeks of searching, and it was a discontinued dress on the rack in a bridal shop. Time is running out! Thanks for your help...

Re: Wedding Dress Color
I think that this is the day you would always want to remember so you should go with the colors you would want to always remember or if that don't work ask your soon to be husband what he thinks. Or if you have a close friend or family member ask them or take a vote like my sister did and she was happy with it. Maybe it could work for you to. I'm about to ger married to so i know how you feel with this I'VE had the same problem but I got the right color that everyone in the wedding would look good in.

Re: Wedding Dress Color
Hello! I am planning a winter wedding too. What I am wearing is white and I have a kid also. The colors for a winter wedding are black dresses and tuxes, red roses and alot of candles for me. You could wear a white dress with red on it. Also black, gold and white, or off white would look nice too! Hope this helps.
