Is it against wedding ethics to invite everyone to the ceremony and dance but only some people to the dinner? If this is ok, how do you do it politely? Please give me any feedback on this as I am having a guilty conscience even thinking about it!
I do not think it is rude at all. I am inviting some people to just the reception, not the dinner, and I know lots of people who have done this also. There are some people that we do not know well enough to invite to dinner (e.g. Coworkers) but would still like for them to come and party. When you send out invites, send the one traditional invite with the ceremony time and dance time. Just do not add anything about the dinner. I do not know anyone who has ever taken offense to this.
