Re: Becoming A Wedding Planner
George Washington University has a great event planning program. Also colleges with Marketing programs usually offier a course or two in event planning. At the Community College level, if they offer tourism, hotel, and catering, then most likely they will offer an event planning class. Fab.com offers books for about $25 on how to become an event or wedding planner. It is a great resouce to help you decided whether to fork over lots of money for a certification program. You can purchase the book or down load it.

It's a great program and right now they are running a sale on all courses. $300.00 off. Good luck to all of you who are looking to become a bridal consultant. For any of you who live in AZ, if you want to be a special events coordinator, there is a Bachelor of Science degree at ASU Main/West for Recreation & Tourism Management, they offer Recreation Major with a minor in special events, that is my major, & so far I love it! Even if you decide that particular area is not what you want, there are SOO many things you can do within the major, including Bridal consultation.

I am interested in becoming a Wedding Planner but I am unsure of what requirements you must have in order to do this type of work. I have a Bachelor's degree and have just recently planned my own wedding without the help of a planner. I figured, if I can get through my own wedding planning and still enjoy it, this might be a very enjoyable job to have. Any advice?

Re: Becoming A Wedding Planner
According to the articles I've been reading you really don't need special classes to become a wedding planner. You do have to be organized, have personable qualities, the ablitiy to talk to vendors and get your clients what they want, etc. I copied one of the articles on what it takes to get started in the business down on the thread titled Becoming A Wedding Planner Information.

Re: Becoming A Wedding Planner
There is a course beginning in August (around the 6th) in Pleasanton, CA (near San Francisco). This course is being taught by experienced consultants with over 15 years experience. It's not inexpensive but well worth the time to take it. Practical, good information and given by people who have walked the walk for years. You can email me for more information if you're interested.

Questions
I know sooo many people have asked for colleges but apparently the only colleges for wedding planners are online. Is that true?

If not, are there any in Florida?

Also, my sister says its best (if there are no wedding planner colleges, not online) to go to a real college and study finace and business and THEN do the online courses. What do you all think?

Anyone with answers email me at surealsmiles@yahoo.com please!

Re: Becoming A Wedding Planner
I have wanted to be a wedding planner for years now. Hint- my e-mail address. I even had two weddings of my own marring the same guy twice. We had a very small wedding in my mother-in-laws backyard and we also had a larger church wedding.
I have put my dreams of becoming a wedding planner on hold and we started a family. But now I am planning a benefit for my father-in-law and all of the dreams of becoming a wedding or event planner are all coming back!!
Where do I go from here. I run a at home day care right now but I am doing this so I can be at home with my children. Once my youngest daughter enters school, I know that I will not want to run the day care any more. I want to be ready to re-enter to work forse once that happens. Is there any classes that I can start taking part-time to get ready?
Thank you,
Sandra

Re: Becoming A Wedding Planner
You dont need any schooling to be a wedding planner. I am searching for tips also - hoping to be a wedding planner in the next 3 months. You need flyers, business cards, a web site, and some photos of work that you have done. I would try to contact Modern Bride, The Knot, The wedding Channel...etc. To post my web site. Does that help any?

HI, my name is Anabel and I'm 17 and about to graduate High School. One of my dreams is to become a wedding planner. Every family wedding that I gone to I enjoy because it's so romantic and I love everything about a weddings. This year as class of 2006 Vice President class officer I planned our Homecoming dance and realised that this is what I like doing, planning things for a big day. I enjoyed it so much and in the end everyone was so happy and said that I "I have done a good Job". That made me proud of what I accomplished. I'm starting to apply at colleges and I want a career in Wedding Planners. My question is, how do you become a Wedding Planner? I want this to be my future, planning weddings is what I want to do. Please send me some information about the steps to becoming a Wedding Planner.
Thank You,

I took a Bridal Consultation Course with PCDI (Professional Career Development Institute). The books are sent to you, and you study at your convenience. Tests can be taken online or sent in. For more info go to pcdi.com
Good luck!
