Bridal Shower

I have been the stepmother for 20 years. Real mom and family are have a shower for Paula but did not invite me or anyone from my husbands side of the family which would only amounts to about 5 of us. Also they did not invite grooms mother. There are no hard feelings involved regarding the marriage breakup 20 yrs ago. I am devisted that I have not been invited. HELP!!

Re: Bridal Shower
Hello. I was looking for stagette ideas when I nothiced your ad. Why don't you have a shower for Paula yourself and invite the others who did not get an invitation or who could not make it for that other one. I would think it was very rude for them not to invite you, and in retrospect, Paula might think that you did not care enough not to come. Therefore, by having one of your own for her, it is still telling her that you care..

Re: Bridal Shower
I agree with the throw her your own shower idea. My aunt threw a baby shower for me and only invited the family that was related to her- we had to have a separate one for my mom's friends and husband's side of the family. Now my MOH is throwing a small shower for my second wedding and only inviting mutual friends from college.

The person throwing the shower does the invites, not usually the bride. So give her two. Yours can be more intimate and special than her other shower.

Re: Bridal Shower
I agree - you should throw the bride a 2nd shower. I can't tell you how many weddings I've been involved in that have had 5 or more showers (a little excessive I know). It seems weird to me that the person throwing the shower decided who to invite. It is customary that the bride elect who she would like invited to the shower and provide the hostess a list. Everything I have read indicates it is not appropriate for family members (moms/sisters) to throw a shower; I don't know whether I agree with that or not.
Some ideas for a different shower:
1. Christmas in July...everyone brings an unwrapped ornament for the new couple's tree. The hostess puts up a Christmas tree and has each person label their ornament. At the end of the shower the hostess boxes up the ornaments with the tags so when the newlyweds open their box to decorate their first tree together they know who gave them what.
2. Bar Showers and Tool Showers make good Co-ed showers.
3. Recipe Shower...everyone is asked to bring a recipe with kitchen items that would be used to make the recipe. I.e. Cookies...Mixing bowls, spatula, cookie sheet, etc.

Hope this helps!
