Wedding Reception

My daughter is have her reception at a country club, but they don't want a open bar, all they are going to serve is champaine and beer but her father thinks this is wrong. Can you help me with this one. He says the reception is for the guest?

Re: Wedding Reception
Hello,
I have seen both ways at repections. People have fun at both. But there has been some people that go overboard with the harder stuff. Is this what they are trying to avoid? Because to me a reception is a time for people to get together and have fun and celebrate the bride and groom's big day of coming together as a couple.
Remember have fun, not more stress..:)

Re: Wedding Reception
Yes, the reception should be somewhat catered to the guests preferences (for example, if the B&G do not drink at all, doesn't mean that they shouldn't serve liquor at their event just because they don't drink it -- I'm sure their guests do....). However, an open bar is not necessary. Beer and champagne is adequate if that is what he B&G would prefer to serve-- an open bar is always nice to have, but the cost sometimes exceeds that of the food.

Keep in mind, this is an event that is being hosted and with any hosted event it is up to the host and hostess as to what they are going to serve their guests. Try to keep their likes/dislikes in mind, but you can't meet everyone's expectations. Cost is usually an important factor and many B&G's are not having open bars simply because of the cost.

You could find a happy-medium with their father -- perhaps have a modified open bar. Off three or four liquor choices (gin, rum, and whiskey for example) for mixed drinks along with the beer and everyone's happy.

Re: Wedding Reception
I had the choice of an open bar and decided against it. I am having well liquors ( vodka, gin, whiskey). I'm sorry, but I didn't want my guests (which most of them are drinkers) standing at the bar doing shots all night at my reception.
