Wedding Colors

I have just got engaged and like many others I am absolutely clueless when it comes to flowers and colors! I am planning my wedding for October 2, 2004 and I would love to hear any suggestions regarding what colors would go good for this particular month and also any input about the flowers would be O.K. Too! Thanks

Re: Wedding Colors
Has anyone does purple with red? Mine will be a dec wedding, right before Christmas. I love purple, and I really want a dark deep purple for the bridesmaids dress, with red and lavendar flowers. The church will already have Christmas decorations, so green will be big, but I won't make that a theme color. Accents will be in silver and white. Some people think this will be too much color. I think it will be great! Any ideas?

Re: Wedding Colors
Well I am getting married on October 9, 2004 and the colors that I have chosen was Crimson and Gold. Those colors are just beautiful together and my seamtress recommended those colors to me. At one time I was thinking of Burgundy and Gold but the Crimson is much more elegant looking than the burgundy. Other colors that would go with that month will be, hunter green, rose and gold.

I haven't decided on any flowers yet so maybe someone else can help us with that. I hope this would help you out a little.

Re: Wedding Colors
My wedding is Oct. 8, 2004 and my colors are navy, white, and gold as an accent. We are using mostly roses, but some other blue flowers to add color.

Re: Wedding Colors
I'm getting married October 23rd, and I have no idea what colors to use!!! I'm not a big fan of oranges and browns, but with my wedding in the fall, I still want my wedding to fit in with the season.
Also- I love roses. What color of roses could I use in the Fall???

Re: Wedding Colors
Just because its an autumn wedding doesn't mean you have to use autumn colors. Roses come in all colors - red, pinks, peaches, yellow, lavendar, etc. Its easy to get roses from almost any florist, so they are an easy flower to work with. They also photograph well.

Re: Wedding Colors
I think for an October..fall..wedding it would be nice to do more earthtone type colors. One way of making an easier choice would be to have your bridesmaids each wear a different color. For example, one in dark red or crimson, one in a green shade, etc. I think it can look very sharp and elegant, and give the wedding some variety without having to pick just one or two specific colors.

Re: Wedding Colors
Don't be afraid to experiment with different shades of mocha, copper, or tan; different shades of green like sage, grass, and seafoam; different shades of purple like lavender, royal purple, or plum. Also, you don't have to let the season dictate what colors you use. Lovely combos that work for fall include: red, yellow & green; dark pink, purple and orange; copper, red-orange and ivory. Tip: Go to your local home depot or wal-mart type store and head over to the housepaint section. There are tons of color swatches you can pick from to see what color combinations look good together. And they're free!

Fall roses come in reds, light orange, bright orange, red-orange, coral, yellow, ivory & white, etc. My favorite is a two toned rose called a "lipstick rose" (it is yellow at the base and the color fades into a dark orange at the tips). I have even seen roses in a mauve-brown color and a super light green color.

Re: Wedding Colors
Martha Stewart's Keepsake Wedding Planner has the best tool in it. In the flower section there are pages of all types of flowers divided up by color. It has a page of red flowers, pink flowers, orange flowers, yellow flowers etc. The entire book in general has helped me plan my 10/16 wedding a whole lot more efficiently than I would have done on my own.
I am going with an ivory gown and my ladies are wearing a deep deep red. I am carrying a black magic rose boquet and the gals are carrying all ivory roses. I am using hints of gold (sashes on chair covers & gold tinted mirrors under votive candels on the tables) to warm up the reception.
Give Martha's book a try and see if it helps. I wish you luck and a lifetime of happiness.
