How Young Is Too Young?

I am 18 years old and I have been with my boyfriend for two years, though we've known each other all our lives. We knew from the beginning of our relationship that we wanted to get married and are hoping to get engaged at Christmas (we've had the ring since July!). We've been told that we are still so young, we should live life first etc etc but all we really want is to get married, and see the world together! (Oh how sweet!!)

The problem is, my parents are a little unsure about it, not because they don't love my boyfriend but because they think we're too young. We aren't planning a wedding til April 2003 when we will both be 19 (I'll be 2 months off 20).

Just wondering what other people think--are my parents being old fashioned?

I am personally in a similar situation. I don't believe you are too young to be engaged or to even plan a future wedding, but just like my parents have told me...Make sure you are complete with your education and are ready to be on your own. The most important thing is to know that you can support yourself and prove to your parents and his, that you can lead a married life. I'm in college and 19 and I know now that my fiance and I aren't going to be married until we can both support eachother together. We won't start planning our wedding until we are both 21. There is nothing wrong with being engaged to be married for more than a year. Consider it being fashionably late. (lol).

HI
My husband and I got married at 19 and we are still happily married 7 years later. We are renewing our vows this year to celebrate. If you're READY go for it. You have to do what's in heart. It can work I'm proof of that. Good luck and Best wishes

Re: How Young Is Too Young?
Of course you are too young to get married! Life is full of oppurtunities that you might be missing. And you think that two years is a long time in a relationship? Ha! People get divorced after 10 years of marriage--you might not even know who your boyfriend is. Oh and if you still need "mommy" and "daddy's" opinion on whether or not you are too young to get married, you are DEFINTELY too young. Do yourself a favor--get an education, go to college--and then worry about marriage.

This message keeps coming up all the time!! I actually first posted it 2 years ago now! It must have been a good talking point!!!

Thanks for your comments- we did get married in April last year when we were both 19, and are coming up for our 1st anniversay next month! We have found it hard but can't imagine life any other way. I am graduating from University next month as well. We are quite established now and even though like all couples we have our good times and our bad times we are both willing to work on our marriage and make it a sucess. It's so exiting knowing we have the rest of our lives to spend with each other! Thanks for all your advice!
