My daughter is getting married in May, 2001. She has opted not to have dancing at her reception. Any activity ideas as to what we can do after dinner to involve the guests?
I am sorry but I also have to agree, i believe that anyone who posts arguments needs to be removed. I know that this is really late but I just found this site. I also am looking for activities to do at my reception. I only have one idea of my own and maybe you all might like it. First off you give everyone that comes to the reception 1 or 2 balloons and a small piece of paper to write down a "TASK" (G rated if kids will participate) example.....Do the funky chicken dance in the middle of everyone.....or....serve everyone their cake...etc..etc. Then they fold up the little piece of paper and put it in the balloon and blow it up and tie it. When everyone is ready to play people take turn popping the balloons and doing what it says. You can imagine how funny things get when you have alot of adults drinking and a kareoke machine. Well it's just an idea that keeps the party from getting slow and quiet.
I must be missing something....

If they're artistic, set up a blank canvas on an easel, put down some drip cloths and provide a floor-length apron. It won't be a pollock but it'll be a talk-piece
You can have a live jazz band, harpist, vioilinist providing music --better yet have one of the friends or family sing a love song dedication
Anyone creative? have someone draw watercolors of the scenes or caricatures of people
Disposable camera scavenger hunt to get everyone involved and mingling. Get creative have people 'hunt' for aunt sally to take her shot. First team to 'shoot' their list wins something.

For a really interactive game do a murder mystery that is wedding-themed on the comic side
Reception at a dinner-theatre?
The best receptions I've been to are ones that didn't have the dinner and dancing. They were just more personal and cozy--you got to meet everyone and spend time with the bride and groom. The details that made the wedding theirs were more noticeable. Have fun planning!
What do you gals think about having horses for horse back riding? To messy for people all dressed up?
Or, has anyone had fireworks at their reception (our ceremony and reception are going to be in the mountains so it'd be a perfect spot). On second thought, that's not such a good idea with fire safety reasons. Yikes!
