Does the grooms father have to ware a matching tux, with the rest of the males in the wedding or can he ware a suit and tie

I would say, he could go either way. As long as he is wearing a boutonniere, people will recognize him as being a relative of the bride/groom.

I've always heard that if the groomsmen are wearing tuxes then the fathers also wear tuxes. But it doesn't have to be a matching tux with wedding party. Let him pick out his own tux.
