Do I need to invite my mother-in-law to be to all my showers? Even the ones hosted by my friends? Some of them might get trashy and I don't want to be embarrassed.
Anything wedding related that your Mom is invited to, she needs to be invited as well. But if it's like my family, my Mom is cool, and my MIL is very proper. If you think there is any danger of your MIL finding out more than she ever needed to know about you, don't invite her. But don't call it a shower, name is Girls Day Out or something, so if she happens to hear through the grapevine that there was a party, she won't be offended.
If at all possible, make a day of it. Have the friend shower during the day and extend it into dinner and your bachelorette party.
