I need games for 70th birthday party, aprox. 40 senior citizens will be attending. I am planning to have gifts for all attending. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Will the seniors be of varying ages and dexterity? This may help determine what type of games to suggest for your seniors. I've assisted several Senior homes that have people in all stages of dexterity as well as many senior parties in our area where the attendees were so agile it made me feel old !!
Do you have a particular theme in mind for the party? Are you "going back in time" for the b-day honoree? How about a casino night? Luau? A garden party for a lady or possibly a Two Stepping evening for a gentleman?

There was a reply from someone to your post with questions for you about ages etc. But no ideas about game ideas were given in the reply on-line. I was wondering what you found out and if you could share a little with me. There is a senior party that our YMCA is hosting and I am one of the main planners for it. Thanks so much for your help!

I planned a party for an elderly aunt. The things I did all were about her.
One of ehr best recipes which everyone of us neices and nephews have asked her to make, is her famous poppyseed roll.
So, I found a few recipes in the cookbooks and put out a 8x11 sheet of paper with around 4-6 recipes including my aunts and I gave a prize for who could pick out Aunt Roses poppyseed recipe.
I also, went to the local drugstore and blew up a picutre of my aunt. A coupld different poses or her in a couple groups, and then tore them up in a bag and had everyone reach in for a piece. And the team who put together the first picture won a prize. It was a great ice breaker.
I am trying to help my Mom come up with some ideas for Senior citizen socials. If you have any game ideas and anything fun that all persons present can interact and do, please write me and let me know. I am not a Senior Citizen, so I do not have a clue. They are having a HeeHaw Skit this week. Each one of them are dressing the part of the character that they are representing. Any idea? I would love to hear from you. Thanks!!
I wouldn't admit this to just anybody, but I used to love Hee Haw :o) If you have seen it or knows someone who has, there was one segment where someone offstage would shout, Hey Grandpa! What's for supper?! and he would recite this L-O-N-G menu, like "Black-eyed peas and corn bread dressing, fresh-picked peas, corn on the cob, hot bicsuits, peach cobbler..." well you get the idea, and at the end of it, everyone would say, "MMMM, MMM!" really loud. As dumb as that sounds, it was pretty funny. That might be a nice 'game' to play by having one start out and each one after calling out that item and an additional one to the menu. A nice memory game, and surely that age group will remember that skit.
So the announcer (you, whoever) will instruct everyone to shout, Hey Grandpa, what's for dinner! and each one takes turns repeating and adding long detailed items to the menu. You say black-eyed peas, so I'd say black-eyed peas and corn bread, the next person would say those two and add a third. Each time a person forgets an item, the game could start over with that person.

One game I came up with is " I can Remember" The leader starts out with the phrase, " I can remember when." and they recount a funny experience that happened to the birthday honoree. Each person adds to the story. It can be something that actually happened or something can be made up - ex: " Wouldn't it have been funny if - " and create an alternative to the story. It usually ends up in peals of laughter.
I entertain seniors and one party favorite is regifting as we call it. We did this game at Christmas and now they want it once a month. Everyone brings something new that they got as a gift sometime in their past and they will never use. Gifts are unwrapped. Then each person draws a number from a hat, numbers are acording to how many gifts are on the table. One goes first and so one. Number one goes to the table and takes what they would like to have , then go down the line with all the other numbers. Then back to number one again, they then get to steal from the others if they would like. Well, by the end of the numbers, people are stealing all over the place. You can run thru the numbers as many times as you like. I find 3 times is the magic number to have fun and not get boring. They must give up the gift they chose if someone is stealing!!! have fun
I have played games with as active senior group on New Year's Eve for several years. We play a variety of games and everyone participates and has fun.
Game 1: Mix about 500 small gold safety pins in an ice cream bucket along with dry oatmeal. Blind fold a person and time the person for say 5 minutes and let them see how many pins they can find in the dry oatmeal. Let each person have a turn (blind folded) and the one that finds the most wins a prize. Try it, this is very difficult, don't peek.
2. Make up a list of questions that can be answered with yes or no. Make a circle with chairs, enough for each person playing. Ask a question and is a person can answer yes to a question, they should move to the seat on the right. The person sitting in that seat may not be able to answer yes to that particular question and will still be sitting there. So..they sit on their lap. Sometimes we have 4-5 people sitting on one chair and a lot of laughing. This is a lot of fun and questions are easy like, Do you have on brown shoes? or Do you have green eyes? or Do you own a concertible. Any questions will do. Lots of fun.
After games were over, I taught those that wanted to learn, how to play Bunco. Had about 7 tables of 4 wanting to learn. Have some other games.
I am hosting a 70th b-day party in november.we are havin a pinata.(old folks love to try hit em) we r puttin denture cream,prepreation h,ben-gay...etc....we r also have cream pies to put their face in them an get a prize. Bingo..
