John Campbell - Bagpiper in South Wales

A bagpiper is guaranteed to add musical excitement to any event with the combination of traditional highland dress and a wide and varied repertoire of bagpipe tunes to suit all occasions.

John is available for Weddings, Funerals, New Year's Eve parties, Burns suppers, birthdays or other special occasions across South Wales and the South West.

John has played the 'highland' bagpipes for 15 years, 5 years as a playing member of a competing pipeband. The high points being two major pipeband championship wins. In Nov 2008 I started to compete in the Competition League for Amateur Solo Pipers (CLASP), organised by the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. In my first year of solo competing (August 2009), I came joint 1st at the World Amateur solo piping championships at my grade.

During the CLASP competition season of 2011-12 I have collectively won all the events at my grade in a new worldwide 'online' competition based in America. In recent months I have won 9 of the 13 events as part of the CLASP league. I became overall winner at the London, Glasgow and Edinburgh contests in succession winning medals and a cup for each event.

This has also meant winning enough overall points to win the 2011-12 league title at my grade. In August 2012 I will be presented with a CLASP medal in Glasgow.

I enjoy performing at my best for audiences, and would relish the opportunity to add a musical touch to your special occasion. My kilt design is Campbell of Argyl (Modern) and reflects my late father's Scottish background. I was however, born in Wales.

"We hired John for our wedding reception last weekend and ourselves and our guests were blown away! I'm Scottish and my wife's Welsh, so we asked for (among other tunes) Flower Of Scotland and the Welsh national anthem. John happily obliged and did a fantastic job with all the tunes he played (including Scottish Soldier and Scotland The Brave). He also went way beyond the call of duty by coming up and meeting us at the venue a few weeks before the event to check it out. On the night, he happily posed for photos with guests and even managed to keep well hidden while the guests were arriving, as this was our little surprise to our guests (especially the Scottish ones!).
